Domestic AMPS application situation
Author:
AMPS is an organic intermediate with great development potential and has a variety of excellent properties. Therefore, AMPS has been widely used abroad in petroleum exploitation, water treatment, biomedical materials, chemical fiber process, magnetic recording materials, textiles (spinning, dyeing), plastics, paper making, coatings and other chemical fields, and has produced oilfield chemicals, water absorbents, flocculants, antistatic agents, colorants, dispersants, foam stabilizers, special coatings, etc. with excellent performance. At present, this product has been widely used in many fields in China, and its polymer has received great attention in the field of oilfield tertiary oil recovery. It is one of the essential raw materials for improving tertiary oil recovery production. Water soluble polymers have important applications in the petroleum industry, and are widely used in various operations such as drilling, cementing, completion and repair, and improving oil recovery rate (EOR).
Research has shown that the binary and ternary copolymers of AMPS and several monomers can be directly used in drilling fluids. Mixing an appropriate amount of low molecular weight and high molecular weight copolymers of this type can greatly improve the performance of drilling fluids. AMPS, as an effective modified monomer, has penetrated into various fields of polymer modification in oilfield chemistry, and to a large extent, it has indeed solved the three most challenging issues of salt resistance, temperature resistance, and shear resistance. At present, domestic oilfield chemistry professionals have begun to use AMPS for the synthesis of EOR polymers and drilling mud additives, and have achieved preliminary results. Oil, as an extremely important and non renewable strategic resource, is attracting global attention. With the gradual depletion of oil resources, the difficulty of oil extraction is increasing, which will inevitably drive the rapid development of the oilfield chemical industry and provide huge market space for AMPS. In the water treatment agent production industry, it has become a raw material for new technology products from many manufacturers; At present, research and production of this product in water treatment agents have been widely carried out in China, especially in the study of the most widely used water treatment agents in industrial cooling water systems, organic phosphonic acid and carboxylic acid copolymers. For example, the POCA developed with this monomer combines the advantages of organic phosphonic acid and carboxylic acid copolymers. Not only is the phosphorus mass fraction low (<5%), which meets environmental protection requirements, but the introduction of sulfonic acid groups enhances its hydrophilicity, improves its ability to resist cationic precipitation, and improves its dispersion ability. Compared with current water treatment agents such as HEDP (Organic Phosphonic Acid: Hydroxyethylene Diphosphonic Acid), HPMA (Carboxylic Acid Copolymer: Hydrolyzed Polymaleic Anhydride), HS-312 (Sulfonic Acid Copolymer), PBTCA (Phosphonic Anhydride), POCA not only has good scale inhibition and dispersion performance, but also has certain corrosion inhibition performance, with better overall performance.
In recent years, with the increasing attention paid by countries around the world to environmental protection, the treatment of various wastewater has become particularly important. It is believed that the market demand for this product will increase year by year. AMPS is an important monomer for improving the comprehensive performance of certain synthetic fibers, especially acrylic or nitrile chlorinated fiber, with a dosage of 1% to 4% of the fiber. It can significantly improve the whiteness, dyeing, anti-static, breathability, and flame retardancy of the fiber. The modified acrylic fiber can be dyed in various colors, increase moisture absorption, make acrylic cellulose closer to natural wool, improve spinning process, enhance spinnability, enhance the luster, chromaticity, and water absorption of acrylic products, and greatly improve flexibility. It is precisely because of these advantages that this monomer has been widely used in many acrylic factories in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, India, and other countries. At present, except for a few manufacturers in China, AMPS has not been widely used as a triple monomer. Generally, sodium methacrylate sulfonate or sodium styrene sulfonate is used as a triple monomer, or no triple monomer is used at all, and only binary copolymerization is carried out (such as Anhui Anqing Acrylic Fiber Factory), so the quality of domestic acrylic fiber products is generally poor. Faced with fierce competition in the international acrylic market, coupled with a certain gap in the quality and specifications of acrylic fibers between China and foreign countries, in order to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, domestic acrylic production plants have begun to actively research and demonstrate this technology. It is a necessary product for China's acrylic industry to face challenges and upgrade products after joining the WTO.
AMPS is a high-performance coating modifier, adhesive, and finishing agent used in the coating industry. Adding AMPS to acrylic cathodic electrophoretic coatings and water-soluble thermosetting coatings can promote crosslinking and curing of coatings during drying, resulting in glossy and other good performance coatings. The copolymer of AMPS and other water-soluble monomers is an indispensable chemical in various paper mills. It can be used as a drainage aid, sizing agent, increasing the strength of paper, and also as a pigment dispersant for color coatings. Hollow fibers made by copolymerization of AMPS and acrylonitrile can be used for hemodialysis. The polymer produced by crosslinking AMPS with dimethyl methacrylate can be used to manufacture contact lenses. The aqueous solution or ethanol solution of AMPS (or its salts) copolymer can also be used as an adhesive for medical electrodes. Due to its good hand feel and non skin damaging properties, AMPS homopolymers are often used as lubricants and thickeners in cosmetics and washing products. It also has certain applications in ceramics and mineral processing technology, such as using AMPS copolymers as thickeners for ceramic clay glaze and dispersants in manufacturing ceramic formulas; In mineral processing, high molecular weight AMPS copolymers can serve as flocculants for phosphate slurry, while medium molecular weight copolymers can serve as flocculants for red slurry. In addition, AMPS monomers have also begun to play a role in the photography and electronics industries.
